The Apparent Inspiration:
My inspiration for Organica #1 was to leave the comfort of my squared off and linear design style, building something with absolute spontaneity that had no straight edges or 90 degree corners. Organica #1 is just that; a form whose direction and center constantly change as you move around it. When looking at the top of the piece from a distance, the wooden petals and spines project a sense of outward growth as they open up toward the sky. Upon closer inspection though, the viewer is drawn back to its primordial core. The sleek upper surface serves to humbly support a small transient object, perhaps a fresh cup of coffee.
The Subtle Inspiration:
Organica #1 is simply inspired by what I am. It has not been influenced by any single artist or style of art, rather it’s been influenced by every artist, human being and moment that has ever existed. Its creative output did not come from me but instead came through me, spontaneously and simultaneously appearing and then vanishing within my mind. More and more I am convinced that my inspiration is always present but only occasionally realized, much like a piece of wood that already contains an infinite amount of carvings waiting to be revealed. Organica #1 is something I opened myself up to, not something I found.
