Agrarian Calling
Agrarian Calling is a commission that I am beginning to fabricate for the city of Wheat Ridge, Colorado and will pay homage to Mother Earth and the area’s agricultural roots. The sixty foot tall installation, which is to be located at the new Clear Creek Crossing campus at I-70 and CO Hwy 58, is an iconic farm silo that used to be common to the area when farming was prolific here. The sculpture is grounded to the earth with a circular stone wall made of Colorado Buff, a local stone that was used to build many of the farm structures along the Front Range over a century ago. The center of the installation consists of fifteen pipes that are thirteen inches in diameter and thirty to forty feet long. These act as a giant wind chime and give Mother Earth a voice as She wanders through the campus. A labyrinth and benches with farming quotes cast into their surfaces, will surround the base of the silo. The installation, along with Mother Earth, will create a contemplative space that invites people to remember a piece of Wheat Ridge’s history and ponder what farming and agriculture mean to them today.
